Our October Guild Meeting will be our Reception for our Show at the Goleta Library.  The Reception is from 2-4 PM on Saturday, October 8th!  Bring finger foods to share!  Your artwork, ready to hang, must be brought to the ingathering on Friday, September 30th.  The show is up from October 1st through October 29th.  See your newsletter for more details or CONTACT us on the CONTACT page.  Here is a piece from a previous show.  Fabulous work!

Our regular monthly meeting will be anything BUT regular in July!

First of all, because the first Saturday falls on the Fourth of July weekend, we will meet on the second Saturday, July 9th AND we will be meeting at Tucker’s Grove Park in Goleta.

WHY ?  At our July meeting we are doing a dye day!  We will convene at 9:30 for social time and snacks, there will be no raffle so we can get right to work, playing with natural dyes.

BRING:   Protein fibers to dye (wool and silk), reasonable amounts.  Gloves, lunch and water.  There is a restroom there and power for the dye pots.

Saturday, June 4th: Dying Around the World with Margaret Carlberg

Margaret Carlberg is a retired chemistry teacher (Connelly
High School, Anaheim, California) where she and students
designed, planted and maintained for 20 years more than 50
garden areas on their 6-acre campus. In 1998, she and her
students became intrigued with natural plant dyes, when she
started experimented extensively with different chemical
mordants. At Coastline Community College, Orange County,
and the South Coast Weaving and Spinning Guild she learned to weave, making
scarves and shawls, purses, belts, bookmarks, and vests with her plant-dyed yarns.
She and her husband Dave moved to Santa Barbara in 2013 and she has been an
active member of the SB Fiber Arts Guild since then.

Being a chemistry teacher, Margaret loves to do experiments, and has done
natural dyeing demonstrations and small-scale workshops at the Huntington
Botanic Gardens in San Marino, at the World Weavers’ Gathering at the San Juan
Capistrano Mission, at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens, the Orange County
Fair, many teachers’ workshops, and with high school, elementary school, and
college students as well as with her grandsons.

Saturday, March 5th: Nature Printing with Hebe Bartz (regular meeting time and place)
Hebe is an active member of the nature printing society. She has done a variety of techniques and will share them with us. There will also be a two day workshop on March 19th and 20th.

Saturday-Sunday, March 19th and 20th Workshop:
Printing, De-Printing, and Re-Printing with Hebe Bartz
This is an opportunity to learn nature printing on photo sensitive fabric. All supplies will be provided, including 1/2 yard x 42″ photosensitive fabric in a color of your choice and two test pieces 8 1/2” square, suitable for mounting on a canvas bag or what have you. The workshop will take place on Saturday from 1 – 4pm, and continues on Sunday from 9 – 4pm. The workshop will be held at Rancho Santa Barbara. Directions will be given to those who register. Please register by March 9th to insure your color choice of fabrics!
