March Guild Meeting is SPECIAL!

Our March Guild Meeting is the much anticipated biennial FIBER FRENZY!  That is why we are announcing early so y’all can get ready.  It is a great time to clean out your closet, reduce your stash and buy someone else’s!

This event is a sale to benefit our scholarship fund and there is always a good selection of YARN, FABRIC, BOOKS and TOOLS, all fiber related of course (spinning, weaving, quilting, needlework, knitting, crocheting, basketry and dyeing).  Maybe some special finished handmade items too. You can donate your old goods to the Guild or split the profits.  Because of the time needed to package and label everything there is a deadline of March 5th.  If you know where the CCL Wake Center weaving class is take it there (Tues/Thurs 10-4) otherwise CONTACT us and we’ll give you a number to call to arrange something else.

You can also take it with you to our February Guild Meeting on February 3rd.

January Events

Happy New Year!

2017 ended in kind of a haze…..The smoke and ash from the Thomas Fire resulted in the cancellation of the opening at City Hall featuring a few Fiber Art pieces from our October Show but it has now been rescheduled to the First Thursday of January!  5-7pm.   See you there!

Each often influences the other: leaving home and experiencing other cultures inspires his imagination; his love of weaving can lead him to seek out travel related to that love. In the lecture he will show images and a few recent tapestries of his that started with travel photos. The second part of the talk with be slides and collected textiles from a trip to weaving villages in Thailand from early 2017.

Format is the same as usual, 9:30 social time, short business meeting, then our guest speaker!

September Guild Meeting and WEEKEND WEAVING WORKSHOP

We have a special workshop going on the first weekend of September.

Jennifer will do a short presentation at our Saturday morning meeting as part of her visit. The Saturday meeting will be 9:30-11:30 at San Antonio Village Community Center.  See newsletter for details.  This is a new location though we have met there before.

The workshop itself is three days!  Sept 1,2,3

“Double Rainbow: 2 Layers, 4 shafts, Infinite Possibilites”

With Jennifer Moore http://www.doubleweaver.com/

This is perhaps the ultimate color sampler! You will begin by winding a warp and setting up your loom according to Jennifer’s system for working with multiple colors in a rotational sequence and bringing it to the workshop. A basic twolayered structure will enable us to mix and match our colors, creating an amazing array of color mixtures. As you weave, and your warp colors move past each other, you will experience a visual feast of iridescence and moiré patterns. We will also experiment with single-layered structures such as warp rep and warp-faced twills and the effects that they create on this versatile warp. This sampler will provide a remarkable education in color theory and how optical mixtures work in weaving, as well as a great source of inspiration for future weaving projects.

Level: Intermediate. No prior experience in doubleweave is necessary, but students must know how to warp their loom.

Students will bring a 4-shaft table or floor loom warped according to instructions.

Fee: $150 for guild members, $200 for non-members.

Contact Lena Scharfeld via the CONTACT page to sign up. Your message will be forwarded to her.
