Scholarship Fund
LaVelle Ure/Lucilla Warren Memorial Educational Grant Fund
Helping Fiber Artists Continue Learning
The Santa Barbara Fiber Arts Guild believes that education is one of the best ways to preserve and advance the fiber arts.
The LaVelle Ure & Lucilla Warren Memorial Educational Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 to honor LaVelle Ure’s lifelong dedication to the fiber arts. It was later expanded to recognize the contributions of Lucilla Warren, whose passion for education and craftsmanship inspired countless fiber artists.
The fund provides financial assistance to individuals and organizations pursuing educational opportunities in weaving and the fiber arts.
Scholarships are made possible through the generosity of our donors and proceeds from our targeted events.

Scholarship awards are determined by the Educational Scholarship Committee based on the merits of the application and the funds available. The committee may award the full amount requested or a lesser amount.
Sharing What You Learn
One of the goals of the scholarship program is to encourage the sharing of knowledge within our fiber arts community.
Recipients are asked to give a brief presentation at a Guild meeting within one year of completing their workshop, course, or research project. This informal presentation allows members to benefit from the recipient’s experience and helps extend the educational value of every scholarship awarded.
Community Organization Scholarships
Organizations that provide fiber arts education may also apply for assistance.
Funding is intended for one-time educational expenses, such as equipment purchases or special educational projects. Ongoing operating expenses, salaries, and recurring program costs are not eligible.
How to Apply
Applying is straightforward.
Please complete the Scholarship Application.
Applications should be submitted at least two months before the registration deadline or beginning of the educational opportunity whenever possible.
Review Process
Applications are reviewed confidentially by the Educational Scholarship.
All application materials remain confidential and are used solely for scholarship consideration.
If Plans Change
If a workshop or event is canceled after scholarship funds have been awarded, the recipient is asked to notify the Guild promptly and return the scholarship funds so they may be made available to another educational opportunity.
Questions?
We encourage anyone considering applying to contact the Guild President with questions before submitting an application.
